Barely is often overlooked as a weight loss resource and to be fair, it doesn’t get much attention. It’s not surprising really, these little dried grains sit inconspicuously in the cupboard and maybe have their day every winter when the slow cooked soup goes on.
But barley can be so much more. They make a fantastic alternative for rice dishes, especially risotto and they can even be eaten for breakfast with a dollop of 0% greek yoghurt! Even more appealing is the price, less than £1 for a 500 gram bag means that you will save the pounds in your purse while losing them from your waistline.
There is of course the traditional use too, added to soups and stews, barley provides a great volume boost, keeping you fuller for longer while cutting the kcals.
